Welcome to Washington Central Supervisory Union (WCSU) located in beautiful Central Vermont. WCSU is comprised of six schools, serving approximately 1,700 students in grades pre-kindergarten through twelve. Our five elementary schools – Berlin, Calais, Doty (Worcester), East Montpelier and Rumney (Middlesex) – serve grades pre-kindergarten through six. U-32, our union middle-high school located in East Montpelier, serves grades seven through twelve.

WCSU employs 190 certified teachers and 171 support personnel who are dedicated to providing quality education to our students. All of our schools have adopted Vermont's Framework for Standards and Learning Opportunities. Our goal is to ensure all standards are taught. A major initiative over the past few years has been for all staff in our schools to identify which standards are taught and assessed in each grade or course and align all instruction to the Vermont Standards. To implement this, teachers have worked on developing standards-based units of instruction that closely align classroom instruction to the standards.

WCSU has developed a comprehensive Pre/K -12 Assessment Plan. This assessment plan consists of the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP), standardized assessments and local assessments developed to align with our curriculum and instruction. Each of our schools has developed a local Action Plan for the purpose of improving student performance. Annually, we report school progress to each of our school communities in the form of a School Report. Both individual school Action Plans and School Reports can be viewed through the individual school web pages, linked to this site. (Links to these web sites are located on the WCSU home page.)

In addition to a strong emphasis on academic instruction, WCSU prides itself in offering a well-rounded education to students with many opportunities to development skills in the arts, co-curricular activities, physical development, technology and social skills. Our schools are committed to providing safe and respectful learning environments. They welcome parent and community involvement and support, and have active parent organizations and advisory groups. For further information about our parent groups, please contact the individual schools or the WCSU central office at 229-0553.
